We Went to “Learn”… and Left With a Roo 🤭
We had a plan.
We were going to go to an adoption event, help with some promo, get these babies adopted, soak in some knowledge, ask questions, learn the ins and outs… you know.. follow the mission.
That plan lasted approximately 7 minutes.
Because then… Roo happened.
She locked onto us the second we walked in like, “Yep. These are my people. I’ve decided.”
And honestly? I will never understand how these sweet animals just know. If humans had even half that level of intuition, I’m convinced the world would be a much more peaceful place… and we’d save ourselves from having to cut off so many people. 😅
Anywho,,,
Meanwhile, we’re over here trying to stay in “learning mode” while she is quite literally choosing us in real time.
And the personality? Instant connection. She reminded us so much of Baylee… that same spark, that same little something that just grabs your heart and doesn’t let go.
It was love at first sight. Like.. hand over the paperwork!
Now listen… we love them all. We think they’re all cute. But there is a reason “failed fosters” exist… and why so many wives bring the one home that their husbands are so mad about at first… and then two days later they’re inseparable. 😭
Because the truth is… they choose us. And we just have to accept it.
So then came the part where we actually asked the questions…
And that’s when we learned her story.
About 8 months old.
Spent most of her life in a cage.
Multiple adoption events.
Considered one of their most urgent dogs.
Every single person there said the same thing…
“If any of them get adopted today… it needs to be her.”
…yeah. That sealed it.
But what got us the most?
Despite everything… she was still SO loving.. so trusting.. so ready for her forever family.
She had spent about a month in a foster home before we met her, and honestly? I think she was just waiting for her moment.
We named her Roo… because this girl walks on her back legs like a tiny kangaroo and commits to it like it’s her full time job (which, it basically is).
So yes… we went to learn.
And instead, we left with a Roo.
And here’s the part that really sticks with me…
Dogs like her? They’re usually the first to go. She’s small, she’s young, she’s adorable… on any other day, she probably would’ve been adopted within hours.
But she wasn’t. She was the last adoption of the day, and there’s no telling how much longer she would’ve been waiting.
I wouldn’t trade that for anything.
Because she didn’t end up with just anyone… she ended up exactly where she was meant to be.
With us 🤍
No regrets. 10/10 would emotionally spiral at an adoption event again.
